Summer to Fall wardrobe transition

Okay, I keep getting emails from everyday consumers saying, "Patricc,
summer is almost over. What do I do about my wardrobe? I can't afford
to go out and buy all new clothing for fall." Well I hope to give you
a little relief by saying that there is no need to go buy a whole new
wardrobe. There are key things that can be done to transition your
summer gear to fall. This fall is going to be all about recycling and
reusing what you already own. I know first hand about this since I had
2 older brothers growing up.

Let me ask you this… Have you looked in your closet lately? I know you
go in there everyday, but have you taken a look at everything you
have? I'll answer that for you, NO , you haven't. I know this because
everyone has their set shorts, pants/jeans, skirts, shirts, shoes that
they cycle through. So first thing is first, go through everything you
have. You WILL find a shirt or sweater that you "forgot" you had. Once
you have everything then its just putting it together and making a few
accessories changes/adds.

This summer/fall is going to be all about layering. Layering is great
because it completely changes the look of you get-up. Take that thin
sweater you wore this summer and layer it with a tank or camisole
underneath it. This is a time to play with colors and patterns. Don't
be afraid to mismatch colors and especially patterns because its going
to be a fall trend.

Take that skirt of yours, add tights under it with a pair of boots.
The style of boots are up to you. I know cowboy boots are kind of a
past trend, but I don't think they have hit (their?? there??)
potential trend peak as of yet and I really like them.

Take that ¾ sleeve shirt or any type of shirt and throw cute scarf
with it. Every girl has a few pair of capris. Don't move them to the
back of the closet. Instead wear a pair of knee high boots with them
and a light sweater/shirt with a scarf.

It's about baby steps in this transition. Take what you have, add some
tights, a scarf, layers, boots, etc and turn summer in to fall. Don't
be afraid to try all combinations of your clothing with accessories
because you never know what will look good or more importantly, what
YOU will like.

Dress yourself with what YOU like

Are you sure it is okay to wear what you have on?? Has it been
approved by someone else??????

You know whats great about fashion? In fashion there are no rules. No
police out there to arrest you for wearing something you like but
other people don't like. (although I wish there were fashion police,
but that is another blog) You can do what you like, whenever you like,
however you like. So my question is why is it that people need
approval??? Remember being a kid? I don't remember too much so that is
why I like looking at kids; but only kids with parents that allow
their kids to be kids. It's so awesome to see kids dress themselves in
a blue sock & jelly on the left foot and no sock & velcro dinosaur
shoe on their right foot. It's awesome because they like it and fuck
what everyone else thinks. For some reason people enter that "I need
approval stage" AKA see someone else wear it before they will.

Let me go even deeper. They will not wear something they like, but
instead wear something they don't like just because a celeb is rocking
it. For instance, Julie was fucking around one night and threw on a
pair of her sisters old school jeans that she had cut into shorts
while she was out doing lawn work. Now Julie actually like the look of
the frayed denim shorts when she added a dope pair of kicks, but she
is going to end up wearing the skinny's that she isn't that fond of
because some "A list" celeb was seen in them. She likes her look in
outfit "A" better than outfit "B", but since she has never seen anyone
rock anything like outfit "A", she will pass. Why??? If you like it
and the way it looks on you, then wear it.

If you open a magazine and see Miss Hilton wearing a turtle shell on
her head, there have been loads of people that have already put a
turtle shell on their head, liked it, but wouldn't wear it out. Once
Miss Hilton has been seen in it, that same person will rock it. Now i
know everyone can't set nor predict trends, but it's not about that.
It's about you liking what you have on, even if no one else does. And
to add to that.... out of those that don't like it or make comments
about it, they are just pissed off cuz they don't have the
courage/confidence in themselves to wear what they like. They are the
ones that need the approval.

So to sum it up, in fashion you have the good, bad and ugly. The great
thing is you can do whatever you want, but just be real with yourself
and wear what you want and not what you think other people want you to
wear.

Express yourself with accessories

My first fashion blog. This is going to be the first of many that I will be putting out. I will be writing on future trends, current trends, trends that have stuck around too long. Also I plan to write about what people wear and why they wear it and style tips that I believe can take your normal day “get-up” to something a little less normal.

Now keep in mind these are my thoughts /opinions and many people probably won’t agree, but if you are one of those people, keep on reading you might find something you like. These thoughts are also random and as I see something or think of something, I’m going to write.

To me fashion is about expressing yourself. It’s not about how expensive you outfit is, it’s about how you wear it. Too many people confuse “in style” with “having style”. Just because you buy a shirt at your local mall doesn’t mean you’re cool. Try buying that $100 trendy tee and wear it completely tucked in with belt loops showing on your creased up chinos. That’s like buying the $10,000 spinners and putting them on a Pinto. Now I’m not going to tell you to buy a $100 tee, cuz I feel you can make a $5 tee look just as good depending on how/what you wear it with.

Right now tees are such an easy, comfortable, inexpensive item that can be worn with pretty much anything. You will very seldom catch me in something besides a tee. However I wear my tees with all sorts of accessories that spice them up. My personal favorite at the moment is adding a tie to a tee. The catch is either the tee or the tie needs to be plain. You can’t have a busy tee and a busy tie. Also I prefer v-necks with ties, but crews are fine. Females are lucky. Along with tees, just throw on a beater or a racer-back tank with a tie.

As far as the bottoms go, denim of any sort will work. I like to cut up my old jeans and make them in to shorts. This is okay to do. PLEASE don’t wear denim shorts that are hemmed with the carpenter loop. During the night time jeans are appropriate. Shoes to me are the make or break accessory to an outfit. Don’t be that guy that has the whole “get-up” together and then throws on your all black shiny shoes or even you all white eggshells that happen to share their name with a K-cheese.

Another thing that is easy to do that can add a lil something to your entire appearance is to jazz up you wrist (both wrist). To start, stop wearing your shiny aluminum foil watch with EVERYTHING. There is a time and place to wear that “old dinosaur bone” and with tees and shorts, it’s neither. Grab yourself some old shoe strings, jellies, dog-tag chains, rubber bands, bandana’s and wrap it around and tie. Act as if your wrists are getting cold and they need to be covered. Don’t go overboard though and look like you belong at the teenage gothic convention.
